My Nemo Swimming Journey: Max & Laura
You know we always say that every child will go through the water wobbles at some point? Well, Max, whose grown-up, Laura, is a Nemo Swimming teacher, has had “every type of water wobbles going”. Now, though, at 5 years old, Max is a confident little swimmer who is close to completing his stage 3. A real turnaround!
How old was Max when you started Nemo Swimming classes?
Laura: He was 18 months when we joined – I would have started sooner if it wasn’t for the Covid restrictions at the time!
And how old is he now?
Laura: He’s 5 years old now
What benefits have you seen as a result of bringing Max to Nemo Swimming classes?
Laura: Max is so confident in the water now, though we did have many, MANY wobbles before getting to this point! He’s just received his 10m badge and is close to completing his stage 3.
What does he love most about swimming?
Laura: Francesca, his teacher. He talks about her all the time! He also loves jumping in and getting sinkers from the bottom of the pool.
What would you say to other parents thinking of starting their little one in Nemo Swimming classes?
Laura: 100% do it. Max has had every type of water wobbles going but his instructors have always been fully supportive of our journey and gave him the best possible experience – whether he was having a good or a bad day. To watch him now as a confident swimmer is just the best feeling and, because we’ve loved our swimming journey so much, I even became an instructor myself!
What would you say to other parents whose little Nemos are going through the water wobbles?
Laura: It will get better, I promise! The instructors are amazing at adapting activities to suit any child (or grown-up!) and the wobbles really don’t last forever… even though it might feel like it at the time!
